Ep. 14: Building an Employee Brand with Katie Santos

While hiring and team management don’t seem like it’s very related to marketing at first glance, many of our previous guests have mentioned the importance of having the right team members to support your marketing goals.

Whether it’s to get your people on board with the required sales process or to ensure you’re providing an excellent customer experience day in and day out, having a strong team impacts your marketing in many ways. This is why it’s clear to me that having a good employee culture and training is critical to your marketing success.

To discuss building your employee brand, I’ve brought in my friend, former Pilates studio owner, and the founder of Fitness HR, Katie Santos.

A little bit about Katie:

Katie has over 40 years of experience in the fitness industry as a teacher, manager, studio owner, and consultant. Her knowledge about the fitness and wellness industry’s unique needs related to employees led her to create Fitness HR, where she helps studio owners as they navigate running a great team. Pursuing a Human Resources Certification allowed Katie to also focus on helping studios comply with ever-changing employment laws nationwide (yes, she’s someone who actually enjoys talking about these things!)

Katie has helped over 200 businesses learn how to build purpose-driven teams, craft sustainable pay strategies, and implement systems and processes to lessen the load on owners. She knows how to work with owners and managers to increase the value of a studio while maintaining the business vision.

In this episode we discussed:

  • Your employee value proposition.. what is is and why you need one

  • Your opportunities and responsibilities as a studio owner when it comes to your studio culture

  • Contractors vs Employees: how the industry is trending and what you need to know

  • Where to look to find new talent for your team
